Create a site and write your first page
Get access, create your site, and publish your first page in a few minutes. This takes about five minutes. You need a Google account.
Get access
Knit is in an invitation-only beta. On knit.wiki, select Request early access, enter your email, and send the request. Requesting access doesn't create an account. We'll contact you after reviewing it.
If someone invited you to their site, you don't need to request access: visit its address or follow the link in your invitation email. See Invite your team.
Create your site
- Open the sign-up link from your approval email.
- Enter a Site name, for example Acme Handbook.
- Check the Subdomain. Knit fills it in from the name; you can change it.
It uses 3–50 lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens, and your site will
live at
<subdomain>.knit.wiki. - Select Create site. If you aren't signed in yet, select Sign up with Google and use the same email Knit approved. Back on the form, select Create site again.
The sign-up form, filled in: the site name Acme Handbook and the subdomain
Knit made from it, acme-handbook.
Example: the site name Acme Handbook gives the subdomain acme-handbook,
so the site lives at acme-handbook.knit.wiki.
Sign in with the Google account whose email Knit approved. Another account can't create the site until it's approved too.
Knit opens your new site.
Write your first page
- Beside the site name at the top of the sidebar, select + (Create page or folder). On a phone, use the round + button at the bottom of the screen.
- Select New page.
- Type a title where it says Untitled, then press Enter to start writing.
- Type / for a menu of blocks, such as headings, lists, and tables.
Knit saves as you type: you'll see Saving draft…, then Unpublished changes.
Publish it
Select Publish beside the title. Your page is now live for everyone on the site, and it has its first version in history.
A new page with its draft saved: Unpublished changes below the title, and Publish ready to select.
Next steps
Signing in later
Google sign-in starts more reliably during busy periods.
Go to knit.wiki and select Sign in. Enter your site address, select Continue, then Continue with Google.
When you're signed in, you can choose a site or enter its address on the same screen. Use the Create another site or Use another account buttons below the address field when you need them.
Create another site opens a blank form. If you leave that form to sign in with Google, Knit keeps the current name and address for your return so you can review them before creating the site.
